Donette Reil and Don Carpenter have owned and operated printing and publishing businesses since they founded Microtype together in 1980. With the advent of desktop computers, they founded Desktop& Press to provide full service graphic design and printing to the Houston area. Since then they have expanded to have clients all over the United States.

Donette received a B.F.A. in Communications Design at SUNY at Buffalo in New York. She continued her education at the Schule für Gestaltung Basel (Basel School of Design) in Basel, Switzerland. While there she studied under Armin Hoffman, Andre Gurtler and Wolfgang Weingarten. Since then she has worked as a graphic designer and Art Director at major advertsing agencies in New York and Los Angeles before settling in Houston.

Don received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Union College in New York. He has always managed a variety of printing, publishing, and technology operations, including newspapers and software engineering.
